Trigger point massage therapy

Trigger points, also know as trigger sites or muscle knots are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscles that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fiber. A trigger point in the neck may refer pain to the shoulder and continue down the arm. Trigger Point Massage Therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of pain by cycling alternately between applying pressure at the site and then releasing it.  The results and benefits of Trigger Point Massage are releasing contracted areas in the muscles thus alleviating pain. Receiving Massage with Trigger Point Therapy on a regular basis can help naturally manage pain and stress from chronic injuries. Trigger Point Massage Therapy is used  for the treatment of thoracic outlet issues, frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, stress headaches, tennis elbow, torticollis (stiff neck), and other repetitive use injuries.

stone flow massage

Stone Flow Massage is a very different approach to the use of Hot Stones over the "fluffy" Spa application that you may be used to. I have found that most Massage Therapist hand can't handle the heat from the hot stones so they pass on this effective modality in their practice. The term "Stone Flow" is a term I use to describe the combination of long strokes and flowing patterns as the Hot Stones are used as an integral part of my deep tissue work. The heat from the stones allows the muscles to relax more quickly thus allowing a more dynamic release. Stone Flow Massage is especially helpful by increasing blood flow to chronic areas of overused and injured muscles and acute spasms. I have found that the use of Hot Stones have been effective for extremely stubborn conditions that have not responded to other kinds of therapy in the past.

Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy is a massage technique whereby the client is working with the Massage Therapist to flex and stretch the muscle groups being worked on. It goes like this, as the Therapist applies pressure to the area being worked, the client flexes the muscle as the pressure is applied and the muscle fibers spread out. The therapist can then work effectively between the muscle fibers and as the client disengages the muscle, it softens, further allowing the Therapist to work even deeper. The continuation of this alternating flex and relax cycle allows for the most effective and painless penetration of the muscle tissue possible. In Active Release Therapy the Massage Therapist will work on pairs of muscles, (the same muscle on each sides of the body), and the supporting synergistic muscles. Each area of focus will take between five and twenty minutes depending on the pressure applied and severity of the condition. Active Release Therapy is especially helpful for chronic repetitive movement injury both in sports and work related activities, including general muscle soreness, tight or "stuck muscles", limited range of motion due to overuse, and frozen shoulder.  And as in all massage modalities, Active Release Therapy is great for general relaxation, decreasing stress and rejuvination.

deep tissue massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of Massage Therapy that focuses on realigning deep layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck, upper back, leg muscle tightness and sore muscles in general. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful ridged tissue) in the muscles and tendons. Adhesions can block circulation, cause pain and limit movement. Some of the same massage strokes are used in classic massage therapy, but with Deep Tissue Massage the strokes are much slower and the pressure is deeper. The focus is on the areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layers and  fascia (the connective tissue surrounding the muscles). Clients that benefit from Deep Tissue Massage are people who have a limited range of motion in their day to day work, such as Hair Dressers, Dentists, Computer Operators, etc. Deep Tissue Massage is also very helpful for general stress relief and relaxation.
